Psychiatric Evaluation

Our first meeting will be a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation (around 60 minutes). A psychiatric evaluation is important to diagnose problems that will be the target for treatment. We will review your medical and psychiatric history and other relevant information. It is important to rule out any physical conditions that may be causing your symptoms. My goal is to provide a safe place to get to know you, formulate a diagnosis and together, create a plan individualized to your needs.

Follow-Up Visits

Should we determine that treatment is right for you or that you would benefit from changes, we will schedule follow-up visits (around 30 minutes) to ensure we achieve the desired effects and progress. Everyone reacts differently to medications, such as individual reactions to side effects and how effective a medication is at targeting symptoms. Depending on your response, visits are typically once a month until symptoms are stabilized and then spaced out to every three months.

Labs, Medications and Natural Supplements

Carolina Mental Health Services has partners in the laboratory and pharmacy industry to negotiate lower prices for you. Should we need laboratory studies, our labs are conveniently located throughout North Carolina, and we can have medications and evidence-based natural supplements delivered to your home.

Psychotherapy and Integrative Treatments

Integrative treatment combines approaches to care for better outcomes, such as combining psychotherapy with medication management. Other beneficial services may include grief or relationship counseling, mindfulness training and yoga.  We will connect you to experienced counselors, therapists, and coaches that can cover any additional strategies that may be right for you.  We invite you to check out our partners at Mindful Mind and Body.

About the GeneSight Test

The GeneSight Psychotropic test analyzes how your genes may affect your outcomes with medications commonly prescribed to treat depression,  anxiety, ADHD, and other mental health conditions. The testing provides information about which medications may require dose adjustments, may be less likely to work for you, or may have an increased risk of side effects based on your genetic makeup.
